Instagram is a great resource for brands to show off powerful images to their followers. From colorful sunsets to menu items that are works of art, followers can get a glimpse of what your brand has to offer. 

But did you know with Instagram Stories, you can take your followers and interact with them on a much more personal level? Seeing as nearly 300 million users are actively using Instagram Stories per day, the opportunity is ready and waiting.

WHOA, WAIT — WHAT ARE INSTAGRAM STORIES? If you’re starting from square one, Instagram Stories is a feature that allow users to post images or videos with a timeframe of 24 hours. The images won’t show up in your Instagram’s profile grid nor will they show up on a follower’s newsfeed. Instead followers will view them at the top of their newsfeed, where a bubble with your profile’s main image will appear. If you tap on it, your story content will be displayed for a maximum of 10 seconds before disappearing.  

But why post stories? Here’s where the fun begins.  

ANSWERING QUESTIONS. Taking time to answer questions on social media is vital. And with Instagram Stories, answering questions in an easy-to-read format is beneficial for both users and your brand. The easiest way is to post an Instagram Story Slide while using the “Questions” filter. A box will appear on your slide allowing users to ask a question anonymously. Your account will be notified of the question in your inbox where you can respond to the user’s question privately, or you can share the answer as new story slide. This is a great way to interact with your audience and get to know what questions they have on their mind.  

EMPLOYEE TAKEOVER. A behind-the-scenes look at your brand allows users to really get a sneak peek at your organization. You can make if fun and engaging by having an employee take over Instagram for the day. They can show users what a day in their shoes is like, providing tours, interacting with others and generally presenting a positive look underneath your brand hood.  

FEATURE OTHER ACCOUNTS. Sharing other users posts on Instagram can be a challenge. If you’ve used Instagram in the past, you’ve noticed that you can’t share another user’s picture easily. You have to screenshot it, crop it and then post onto your account. It’s much easier to share with Instagram Stories. Go to the image you want to share, click the share button (paper airplane icon) and tap share in a story. From there, your followers will see the image and a notification will be sent to the original post’s user. The account you’ve featured will appreciate it and maybe even share your brand with their followers in their story.  

STORY HIGHLIGHTS. We mentioned that story slides will disappear after 24 hours. This is a feature that sets stories aside from your regular Instagram posts. However, there is a way to keep your slides accessible to users in an organized manner.  You can “highlight” your story slides into categories and place them on your account’s main page. They will appear as little bubbles above your story grid. All you have to do is go to your story, click highlight button in the bottom corner and add to highlight. Users can then view them for as long as you want them to.
